Matchmaking · By application · Queer-centered
We’d rather know you than rank you.
The Rolodex is a matchmaking service for people who want to be met honestly. No swiping, no scoring, no algorithm guessing at your inner life — just long conversations, careful thought, and introductions made by people who actually know you both.
We open in small groups. One note when it’s your turn — never a newsletter.
What we believe
Four things we’ve organized the whole service around.
Being known takes time.
Attraction is quick. Recognition isn’t. We build the slowness in on purpose — the part most apps engineer away is the part that actually works.
Honesty is the whole method.
We ask real questions and we expect real answers: what you’re working through, what you’ve outgrown, what you’re still afraid of. Nothing is scored. Nothing is shown to anyone you haven’t been introduced to.
Queerness is a starting point, not a filter.
We’re built by and around queer people, so nobody has to explain themselves from scratch. That same care extends to anyone who arrives with the same openness.
A person, not a feed.
You meet one person at a time, with context and with a reason. If it doesn’t work, we want to hear why — that’s how we get better at you.
How it works
Four steps, and none of them are fast.
Apply
A long set of questions and no time limit. Most people take about an hour. Most people tell us they enjoyed it.
Sit down with us
An unscripted hour with a real matchmaker. We’re listening for the things a form can’t hold — how you tell a story, what you keep circling back to.
An introduction
When we find someone, we tell you both why. You get context, not a profile. Where and when is up to you.
We stay in it
Afterwards we ask how it went and we want the honest version. Your answer shapes the next introduction, and the one after that.
A few of the questions
This is what the application looks like.
It isn’t a personality test. There are no wrong answers and there’s nothing to optimize — we just want to hear you think.
- 01What have you changed your mind about in the last two years?
- 02Who knows you best — and what do they know that most people don’t?
- 03Describe a good Tuesday.
- 04What do you need someone to be patient with?
- 05What are you still becoming?
- 06What’s the last thing that made you cry that wasn’t sad?
Who it’s for
For people who are done performing.
Who’d rather have four real conversations this year than four hundred matches. Who are looking for something with weight — a partner, a person, a beginning — and are willing to be honest about it to get there.
The Rolodex is built around queer community: trans, nonbinary, lesbian, gay, bi, ace, and everyone still finding the word for it. Being queer here is assumed, not accommodated.
It’s open to anyone who arrives with the same honesty and the same care for the people they’ll meet.
We’re small on purpose. Membership is by application, and we’d rather turn people away than introduce badly.
We’re opening city by city, in small groups.
Leave your email and we’ll write to you when we open near you — with the application, and a real person’s name at the bottom.
